this is the easiest sling i’ve ever made, but i still have to see how it slings

and i’ll give it a whirl tmmw out in the bush

mayapple ” ripening ” testing

June 30, 2010

so instead of waiting for the mayapples to turn yellow and drop

i figured i’d pick some and see if they ripen on their own

i decided to number 6 of these mayapples
in the background is 4 mayapples wrapped in newspaper

silverweed is a runner

June 30, 2010

i’ve always thought silverweed grew in clumps like this, but i guess this ” clump ” is some form of cinquefoil

and i guess silverweed grows on a runner

can’t  find too much about this as a wild edible, although it is supposed to have  a laxative/purgative effect, when i do sample this, i’ll try some late at night

i’m hesitate to harvest this purslane because i want some seeds for next year

catching some morning sun in my kitchen

one of two big purslane plants down by the river

there’s some smaller purslane in the landladys garden, i’ll grab those for eating

Purslane is one of my favorite edible weeds, just pick it and eat it raw

just waiting for them to turn yellow and drop

June 25, 2010

so i hung up some milkweed leaves to dry, i started with 4 but the first one i grabbed fell apart in my hand, so here’s the other 3 leaves

and then i crushed and rolled it up in my hands, and picked out the stems and midribs // in theory, all the nutrients should still be in the leaves

so i’m trying some more milkweed leaves and day lily flowers, and i put one day lily in a book

left the house at 9:30 am and got home at 1 pm

of course i took lots of extra doubles/angles because i don’t have a viewfinder, and i’m not trusting my ” point and shoot ” skills, and i can always blame the wind for any pics that don’t work out
